Kids need structure. They may not like it but they need it.
It seems girls are better are creating structure for themselves, but boys need some help.
They also need help managing their time, juggling timetables and generally getting themselves organised.
Time spent helping your son in this area is perhaps the best type of assistance you can provide. It is in the area of personal organisation that girls, quite frankly, tend to leave boys in their wake.
The nature of schooling in the later years favours those students who are best able to organise themselves, their possessions, their projects and their time. That sounds more like girls than boys!
Organisational skills include:
1. List-making
2. Planning events
3. Goal-setting
4. Putting first things first
5. Using diaries amd planners
6. Using posters and charts
It's important to go visual to help kids become better organised. Boys, in particular, tend to be visual learners so any help you can provide that uses this visual mode will definitely may off.
These holidays, make sure kids have fun, but you can also work on their organisational skills as well.
